Europe's market garden is our province

Our head office, our fleet and our traffic desk are all in the Valle del Almanzora industrial estate, in Cuevas del Almanzora. We have been loading Almerían produce for more than thirty years, and it shows in the small things: we know the province's packhouses and auction markets, their access roads and their departure times.

Almería grows fresh vegetables through the European winter, when hardly anywhere else can. That advantage rests on very demanding logistics: the crop is cut in the morning, packed in the afternoon and has to reach the delivery bay — sometimes 2,000 km away — with most of its shelf life still ahead of it.

What we load in the province

Fresh produce from the greenhouses and open fields of Almería, each at the range it calls for:

Tomato, pepper and cucumber Poniente

The bulk of production from El Ejido, Roquetas de Mar, Vícar, La Mojonera and Adra, in full loads to European platforms and markets.

Courgette, aubergine and green beans Short cycle

Produce that is particularly prone to bruising and dehydration: it travels with humidity under control and with no break in the load along the way.

Lettuce, broccoli and leafy greens Around 2 ºC

Crops from the Campo de Níjar and the Levante, calling for the lowest range in the whole fresh produce scale and the tightest delivery windows.

Watermelon and melon Spring

A very concentrated season, with peaks that demand having trucks available in the province rather than two hundred kilometres away.

Almanzora citrus 8 ºC to 10 ºC

Oranges and mandarins from the Bajo Almanzora, with their own storage range and their own calendar, quite unlike that of the vegetables.

October to May, with no slack

In season, transport is not the stage that comes after production: it is part of it. A load that leaves half a day late arrives with half a day less shelf life on the shelf, and that ends up as a claim the marketer pays for.

Having our base here is what lets us respond. The truck does not have to come down from another province: it arrives pre-cooled at the bay, and temperature logging starts the moment loading begins, not when the vehicle pulls onto the road.

Frequently asked questions

Do you load directly at the packhouses?

Yes, that is how we normally work in the province. We take the pre-cooled vehicle to the packhouse, load there, and temperature logging starts at that point rather than when we pull onto the road. We work with packhouses, cooperatives and marketing companies across Almería.

What temperature does each product travel at?

Whatever the produce calls for. Our vehicles cover everything from below zero up to 12 ºC, and within that range each product has its own: citrus keeps best between 8 and 10 ºC, while broccoli calls for around 2 ºC. Tell us what you are loading and we set it before departure.

How far in advance should a truck be booked in peak season?

The sooner the better, because from October to May demand across the province goes through the roof. That said, having the fleet here lets us respond to an unplanned load far more quickly than a haulier who has to send a vehicle down to Almería first.

Do you take Almerían produce to Europe?

Yes, it is one of our main routes: Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy and the United Kingdom, as full loads or consolidated.
